Dr Boris Prickarts, AIE Treasurer and Trustee – International School Eindhoven, the Netherlands
Dr Boris Prickarts is Director of the International School Eindhoven in the Netherlands.
Prior to this, he was Deputy Head at the United World College(UWC) in Costa Rica (2020-2021). He set up and led the Amsterdam International Community School (AICS) in 2003, and chaired the Dutch International Primary Schools (DIPS) from 2017-2020.
He was a History Teacher and junior administrator for nine years at the International School of The Hague (ISH). Both the AICS and the ISH are Dutch government-sponsored international schools. In the UK (1992) and Australia (2001) he worked for a short period as a visiting history teacher in government schools. From 1992-2002 he was author and editor of various history school books in Dutch and English.
In his doctoral thesis (2016) Boris examined whether and to what extent Dutch schools have been able to resist becoming a ‘bargaining zone’ for a particular, uniformed kind of international schooling.
He argued that despite being managed by the same organisation, the Esprit School Group, these schools were developing quite varied forms of internationalisation and that the particular shape of internationalisation adopted by the different schools was largely influenced by its clientele’s expectations. During this research, he became involved in supporting the work of the AIE conferences held in Mumbai (2014), Bangkok (2016) and Amsterdam (2017).
